We want to reflect the communities in which we build. And we want to ensure that the diversity of our employees is reflected at all levels of the company.

Equity Audit

We recognize that this work begins by being acutely aware of any potential unconscious bias or inequities, even if unintended, that may exist within our company. We continuously analyze data, assess outcomes, and improve our processes to sustain an inclusive and equitable culture.

Active Caring

We strive to transform our company into a environment of active caring, where we take care of each other with the same consideration and concern as we would our own families to ensure the safety and well-being of all people on our sites. We believe this collective shift in both mindset and behavior will lead us to an environment absent of harm where people can be their very best selves.

Building L.I.F.E. Program

To face the ongoing challenge of continuous improvement for a mature and advanced safety program, Turner developed the Building L.I.F.E. (Living Injury Free Everyday)® Program in 2010. Building L.I.F.E.® is a continuous improvement process with an upstream focus on strengthening our systems and mitigating risk. The program endeavors to produce a bottom-up safety culture driven by increased worker engagement in safety and planning processes. Building L.I.F.E.® places an emphasis on optimizing human performance, anchored by a focus on observation and feedback where the entire workforce, including our team and our subcontractor partners, is empowered to observe, engage, participate and share safety procedures as well as stop unsafe work.

Innovation in Practice

Our mission is to be an innovation leader for the built environment

Dedicated Innovation Group

An agile group of innovation enthusiasts passionate about helping people explore beyond WHAT IS into what COULD BE. We operate in a space outside of the core business, which allows us to devote the time and energy necessary to advance ideas that otherwise couldn’t or wouldn’t be realized in the face of commitments to Turner’s core business.

Innovation doesn’t just happen in people’s spare time. It requires hard work and dedicated teams. We work full-time to identify, evaluate, develop, and implement innovative solutions. We are supported by the Innovation Strategy Committee - a group of senior leaders who are enthusiastic about advancing audacious goals.

Innovation Challenge

This open-ended, ongoing process of exploration, experimentation and learning, provides a path to bring great ideas from conceptualization to company wide adoption. Employees submit ideas that are then taken to brainstorming workshops for refinement and testing before moving into pilot opportunities and company-wide implementation.

A Culture of Continuous Improvement

We have built our reputation around the principles of lean, which maximizes customer value by eliminating waste through continuous improvement and respect for people. On all of our sports projects, we utilize the latest technologies and implement lean construction techniques. We are focused on the growth of best practices and leveraging the latest technologies to continue to shorten schedules, minimize risk, reduce cost, and improve safety for workers and clients.

Building Sustainable Projects Dedication to Environmental Efficiency

Turner is redefining sustainability and elevating what it means to be a “green” builder. We utilize our technical expertise to create a healthy, prosperous and sustainable future for our people, clients and the environment. Three pillars support achievement of this vision:

Environmental Efficiency

We will be responsible in the use and protection of finite natural resources. We commit to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption of our on-site construction operations by 50 percent by 2030.

Resiliency

We will protect and promote personal health and safety during the construction process. We will increase our technical expertise in resiliency to support critical decision-making to provide for the long-term comfort, livability and sustainability of buildings and communities.

Embodied Carbon

Embodied carbon refers to carbon dioxide emitted during the manufacture, transport and construction of building materials. We understand that the greenhouse gases that are emitted to construct our buildings have a negative impact on the environment —the embodied carbon.

We are also at the ready to assist our clients with goals related to embodied carbon in building materials. During the project planning phase we can engage our subcontractor network to help identify and compare materials with lower embodied carbon, enabling the specification and procurement of the low carbon options. We are committed to working with our clients to prioritize the materials that make the most difference and can start finding solutions that have the biggest impact.

Green Building

We will achieve the environmental goals for our projects. Our people will continue to learn and grow their knowledge and experience in innovative green technologies and processes.

Jobsite Metering

Turner has implemented a jobsite metering program to measure energy and water consumption on projects. The metering program is the first phase of Turner’s 2030 Commitment to reduce water consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from construction operations by 50% by 2030.

Jobsite metering focuses on reductions of:

• Greenhouse Gas Emissions

• Water Use

• Construction Energy Use

Offsite Solutions

Realizing the benefits of prefabricated production

Offsite construction is transforming the construction industry and driving traditional building activity away from the project site and into safer and more efficient manufacturing-like facilities. When successfully delivered, offsite construction can be a key driver of construction productivity - contributing to improved project schedules, reduced cost and budgets, improved site safety, enhanced quality, and reduced waste.

Key benefits of offsite implementation include:

COST

By reducing the risk of cost variance, offsite improves cost certainty.

SCHEDULE

By reducing the risk of schedule variance, offsite improves schedule certainty.

SUSTAINABILITY

Offsite construction results in less waste, less re-work, and more opportunities for recycling.

SAFETY

Offsite improves site organization, reduces site congestion, and facilitates safe, ergonomic work.

QUALITY

QA/QC is enhanced in a controlled offsite manufacturing environment.

PRODUCTIVITY

Efficient manufacturing processes streamline the fabrication of building systems.

Offsite applications enhance Turner’s ability to more predictably and effectively deliver our services.

Turner Engineering Group

Offsite Prefabrication strategies

can reduce onsite labor by 10% or more— allowing our clients to consider locations with tight labor conditions.

The Future of Building

Labor shortages and stagnant productivity are among the factors driving interest and investment away from traditional on-site building and towards offsite construction. Accelerating digitization and automation in the industry are increasingly making the offsite construction model possible. Implementing offsite allows Turner, our clients, and partners to realize the cost, quality, safety, and productivity benefits that manufacturing-style production methods have long delivered to other industries.

Incorporating the Turner Engineering Group (TEG) into our projects has expeditiously mitigated risks and improves building performance for our clients. TEG provides expertise, oversight, and analysis to formulate engineered solutions for design-related challenges that arise on projects.

Equipped with in-house experts that include registered and licensed architects, engineers, and designers, TEG’s mission is to mitigate potential design risk, identify coordination challenges and generate potential system optimization opportunities. Their experience broadly includes commercial, healthcare, higher education, laboratories, airports and government projects.
