Amplify returns to Decatur

THERE’S SOMETHING MAGICAL about music drifting through a town—out of pubs, across sidewalks, into the rhythm of a community. That’s the heartbeat of the Amplify Decatur Music Festival, returning April 27–29 with a fresh new format. For the first time, Saturday’s main event is completely free, offering even more people a chance to join in the fun. And with Decatur Square undergoing renovations, the main stage moves to the community bandstand, right in the heart of downtown.

But while the setup may be new this year, the mission remains the same: harness the power of music to help people and organizations in need. Since 2010, Amplify has donated over $625,000 to local nonprofits—more than $385,000 right here in Decatur. This year’s proceeds benefit Decatur Cooperative Ministry and the Decatur Education Foundation.

Expect music everywhere—from festival headliners The Last Waltz Ensemble, to tribute shows at Avon Theatre and Eddie’s Attic, to intimate pop-up performances in downtown restaurants. Whether you’re dancing in the street or swaying inside The Marlay, Amplify is where music meets meaning. As co-Board Chair Drew Robinson puts it: “More music. More awareness. More good.”

Amplify is made possible through sponsorships by Lenz, Inc., Decatur Package Store, Savannah Distributing Co., Creature Comforts Brewing Co., Three Taverns Craft Beers, Natalie Gregory and Co., Visit Decatur, Iris and Bruce Feinberg, 97.1 FM The River, Plumb Works, Brick Store Pub, Trove, Scott Miller MD and The Caldwell Family.

The Last Waltz Ensemble

Carrying the soul of a musical era

WHAT STARTED AS A one-night idea by Atlanta musician Karl Gloer has become a full-force concert celebration honoring the legacy of The Band and Bob Dylan. The Last Waltz Ensemble is an evolving, electrifying, tribute to one of the most influential musicians and eras in American music. But for Gloer and his bandmates, this isn’t about nostalgia—it’s about soul. From his days following Dylan and the Grateful Dead across the country, The LWEnsemble continues to chase the music that shaped them.

That same spirit now fuels every performance. The LWEnsemble has played sold-out shows across the South and beyond, sharing the stage with legends like Susan Tedeschi, Francine Reed and Colonel Bruce Hampton. Their setlist weaves reverence with originality—bringing a timeless catalog to life for new audiences with every show.

Their headline slot at the Amplify Decatur Music Festival is more than a gig— it’s a homecoming. “There is a hometown fire in this one,” Gloer says. Whether you’re hearing The Band’s classics for the first time or the hundredth, The Last Waltz Ensemble delivers them with heart, grit, and something undeniably real.
